The Victim Witness Advocate (VWA) will be your primary contact with the Middlesex CAC following the forensic interview. Their primary goal is to reduce the level of secondary injury associated with the aftermath of crime for victims and their non-offending family members.
Our VWAs have specialized training and experience in the fields of victim advocacy and child maltreatment. They will:
Provide crisis intervention, support, and help with safety planning
Assist in applying for restraining or harassment prevention orders
Provide referrals for trauma-focused, evidence-based mental health services
Provide referrals for specialized medical exams if your child is not seen by the Middlesex CAC's Pediatric SANE
Assist with an application for the Victim Compensation Fund
Help access public assistance programs
Provide appropriate support and resource information
Ensure crime victims and witnesses are provided a meaningful role in the criminal justice system as set forth in the Victim Bill of Rights
Explain the court process and, if your case proceeds to court, provide updates on court proceedings, accompany you to court if necessary, and assist with trial preparation meetings
